Rent Well is designed for Oregon and Washington renters who want to strengthen their understanding of their rental rights and responiblities and and improve their chances of obtaining and maintaining stable housing.

The program is especially beneficial for:

  • Individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Renters with past barriers to housing, such as prior evictions, criminal history, poor credit, limited rental history, or gaps in housing.
  •  Individuals transitioning from one housing situation to another.
  • First-time renters who want to learn how to successfully navigate the rental process.
  • Anyone who would like a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities as a tenant.

During the course, students learn about landlord expectations, rental screening criteria, budgeting, communication skills, rental references, fair housing, and strategies for becoming a successful tenant.

While Rent Well can be helpful for many people, enrollment requirements and class availability vary by location and provider.

  • For instructor-led in-person or webinar-style classes, participanting agencies have the ability to prioritize individuals receiving services through them or choose to host classes that are open to the general public.
  • For the eCourse, it is only available for Oregon residents who are low-income and have a barrier to renting.
