To improve program consistency, data accuracy, and grant compliance, the Rent Well program will no longer approve extensions for eCourse students beginning July 1, 2026.
We understand that life happens, and completing coursework can be challenging while balancing work, family, housing searches, and other responsibilities. This change allows Rent Well to maintain accurate student records, ensure consistent program administration, and reduce technical issues that impact student communications.
What is changing?
Beginning July 1, 2026, Rent Well will no longer grant extensions to students enrolled in the eCourse. Students must complete all course requirements before their assigned course end date. If a student does not complete the course and submit all their housing portfolio documents before the end date, their enrollment will expire, and they will need to enroll in a future eCourse if they wish to complete the program.
Why is Rent Well making this change?
Over time, course extensions have created several challenges for both students and program administration, including:
Increased complexity in grant monitoring and reporting requirements
Difficulty maintaining accurate student completion data
Technical issues related to student enrollment timelines
Automated email reminders are being sent at incorrect times
System glitches caused by students remaining active beyond their original course dates
Challenges tracking participation and outcomes across multiple cohorts
Removing extensions allows all students to be tracked consistently and improves the reliability of course communications and reporting.
When does this change take effect?
The new policy takes effect on July 1, 2026. Any student whose course end date is on July 1, 2026, or later will be subject to this policy.
I am currently enrolled in the eCourse. Does this affect me?
It may. Students enrolled on or after April 2, 2026, will be affected by this change. Students enrolled on April 2, 2026, will be the first to receive the updated 2½-month reminder message during the week of June 15, 2026. The revised reminder no longer references extension requests. Students in this cohort must complete all course requirements by July 1, 2026.
Can I request an extension if I am close to finishing?
No. Beginning July 1, 2026, Rent Well will no longer approve extension requests regardless of how much coursework has been completed. Students are encouraged to complete all lessons, assessments, and graduation requirements before their course expiration date.
How do I know when my course expires?
Students will receive emails at the beginning of the course, 2 weeks in, 1 month in, 2 months in, 2 1/2 months in, and at their 90-day mark to the email that they registered with, which will inform them of their expiration date.
If a student logs in to the course, they can see how long they have access to the course if they:
- Click on the 3 bars in the upper right corner

- Click on Resources

- Click on View your Training

- Under Search Results on the page, the Rent Well class will be listed and have a Due Date under the title. NOTE: If you have already completed all the sections, but still need to complete your Housing Portfolio, you may have to change the filter from "Active" to "Completed" to view your training.

What happens if my course expires before I finish?
If your enrollment expires before you complete the course:
Your course access will end.
You will not receive a Rent Well graduation certificate.
You may need to enroll in a future Rent Well eCourse to complete the program.
What should I do if I am worried about finishing on time?
If you are concerned about completing the course before your expiration date:
Log in and review your current progress.
Complete any remaining sections and upload all housing portfolio documents as soon as possible.
Do not wait until the last few days of the course to begin unfinished coursework.
The sooner you address outstanding assignments, the more likely you are to complete the course before your enrollment expires.
What do I do if I am supporting a student through the course?
We encourage you to:
Review student progress regularly.
Remind students of upcoming course deadlines.
Encourage students to complete coursework regularly.
Help students create a realistic completion plan if they are falling behind.
Discuss the July 1, 2026, policy change with students who may be affected.
Early engagement is the best way to help students successfully graduate before their course expiration date.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
