It is concerning that there are addresses that are unknown to the student on their report. It is important to check if there is any other unknown or unusual behavior on the report. It is a good sign that there are no open accounts in their name, and it is just the addresses showing up.


The student should do the following to protect themselves: 

  1. Pull all three reports (or the other two, Experian and Equifax) from annualcreditreports.com, asap just to see if there is anything else on those 

  2. Put a freeze on at least TransUnion - https://www.transunion.com/credit-freeze

  3. Dispute/ Request that the addresses be removed by TransUnion with TransUnion directly (there is a dispute template form on page 80 of the Rent Well book)

  4. If you suspect fraud, consider placing a fraud alert on your file or filing a report via the Federal Trade Commission.
