The Rent Well program is designed to provide a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment where all students have an opportunity to succeed. The goal is always to support students in completing the program. However, there are circumstances in which a student may be removed from a course or prevented from graduating before all program requirements have been completed. Exclusion from a course is rare and is considered only after attempts have been made to address concerns whenever possible.

Reasons a Student May Be Excluded

Failure to Meet Attendance Requirements

Students must comply with the program's attendance policy. A student may be unable to continue or graduate if they:

  • Miss the first class session.

  • Miss more than the allowable number of sections under the attendance policy.

  • Are repeatedly late or leave early, resulting in excessive missed instructional time.

  • Do not complete required make-up work when permitted.

Disruptive or Unsafe Behavior

Students are expected to contribute to a respectful learning environment. A student may be removed from the course for behaviors that disrupt learning or create an unsafe environment, including:

  • Repeated interruptions that prevent instruction from continuing.

  • Aggressive, threatening, or intimidating behavior.

  • Harassment, discrimination, or bullying toward staff or other students.

  • Verbal abuse, profanity directed at others, or hostile confrontations.

  • Physical violence or threats of violence.

Being Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol

Students are expected to participate fully and safely in class. A student may be excluded from an in-person session if they:

  • Attend class while visibly impaired by drugs or alcohol.

  • Engage in behavior related to substance use that disrupts the learning environment.

Failure to Follow Instructor Directions

Students may be removed if they repeatedly refuse to comply with reasonable instructor requests or classroom expectations, including:

  • Refusing to follow established classroom rules.

  • Refusing to participate in required course activities or assignments.

  • Continuing behaviors that interfere with instruction after being redirected.

Failure to Meet Program Participation Expectations

A student may be unable to continue if they:

  • Stop participating in the course for an extended period.

  • Fail to complete required assignments, activities, or assessments.

  • Abandon the course without communication.

Academic Dishonesty or Misrepresentation

Students are expected to complete their own work and provide accurate information. A student may be excluded if they:

  • Have another person complete coursework or assessments on their behalf.

  • Falsify identity, documentation, or program records.

  • Intentionally provide false information to obtain a certificate.

Misuse of the eCourse Platform

For students participating in the eCourse, exclusion may occur if a student:

  • Shares login credentials with another person or permits another person to access their eCourse.

  • Attempts to manipulate, bypass, or interfere with course requirements or technology.

  • Uses the platform in a way that compromises the integrity or security of the course or the Rent Well staff members.

  • Engages in abusive or inappropriate communication with staff through the platform.

Harassment of Staff, Instructors, or Other Students

Rent Well maintains a zero-tolerance approach toward harassment. Students may be removed for:

  • Repeated abusive emails, phone calls, or messages.

  • Harassing, threatening, or stalking behavior.

  • Discriminatory remarks or conduct.

  • Sending unwanted, inappropriate, or sexually suggestive messages or materials.

  • Retaliation against staff or other participants.

Before a Student Is Excluded

Whenever possible, instructors and program staff will attempt to:

  • Clarify expectations.

  • Address concerns directly with the student.

  • Investigate the situation.

  • Provide opportunities to correct behaviors.

  • Offer referrals or support when appropriate.

However, Rent Well staff and instructors reserve the right to remove a student from participation at any time if their behavior compromises the safety of others, disrupts the learning environment, undermines the integrity of the program, or otherwise interferes with the program's ability to operate effectively. Certain behaviors, particularly those involving safety concerns, threats, violence, harassment, or fraud, may result in immediate removal from the course.

Re-Enrollment After Exclusion

Depending on the reason for exclusion, a student may be eligible to enroll in a future Rent Well course. In some cases, additional conditions or approvals may be required before re-enrollment is permitted. Exclusion from a course is intended to protect the safety, integrity, and learning experience of all participants and to ensure that every Rent Well student has the opportunity to learn in a respectful and supportive environment.
